
Janice Yau Garton was a Hong Kong partner and head of real estate (Asia) at Stephenson Harwood for 4 years where she also chaired the HK DEI Committee (covering gender equity, LGBT+, social mobility, allyship and disability, health and wellbeing) and was an active member of the CSR and ESG committees. She was at DLA Piper for 15 years before that, where she ran the CSR program and was the Asia rep of their internal program Leadership Alliance for Women on top of her day job. In addition to being a director of the IBEL, she is a director of an investment fund, on the advisory board of Crossroads and The R Collective, and has been a Women in Law Hong Kong committee member for the past 9 years.
She is ranked as a Next Generation Partner for Real Estate (2022-2025) and Rising Star for Real Estate (2020 & 2021) in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific Hong Kong Guide. She is also ranked Band 4 for Real Estate in Chambers Greater China Region (2023-2025).
Born and raised in Canada by first generation immigrant parents from HK, she distinctly remembers what it was like to grow up in a culture and speak in a language that was different from life inside her house. She’s had short stints in Sydney and Perth, but Hong Kong has been her home for the last 20 years. She speaks English, French and Cantonese.
